Over ten years since my first high school algebra class, I still can recite the quadratic equation in its glorious entirety. Judging by the fact that I went on to major in English and Spanish at college, this odd retention probably has little to do with an affinity for math, and more to do with my teacher singing it to the University of Michigan fight song.
So when I came across the YouTube spin-off education site, which features videos, songs, and presentations shared by teachers for teachers, I started looking for my old maize-and-blue-themed math song. Though I didn’t find that particular lesson, I did discover plenty of verb raps, DIY children’s e-books, a 9-year-old writer discussing her stories, and one middle school’s Black Eyed Peas spoof — “Gotta Keep Reading.”
Happy browsing and enjoy the back-to-school lesson planning.
